Home Help Status

The Home Help Program is designed to reduce the County's serious oversupply of homes for sale, including foreclosed properties, while making it possible for Prince William County employees, teachers and Park Authority employees to purchase a home in the County; thereby allowing County employees to live in the community in which they work and reducing the current supply of homes on the market.

Home Help Background

On May 20, 2008, the Board of County Supervisors received a briefing from the Finance Director regarding the Home Help workforce housing concept. At that time, the Board voted unanimously in support of the concept and directed the Foreclosure Task Force to develop the Home Help Program.

On Nov. 18, 2008, the Board received an update on the program and unanimously supported the program and its parameters.

On Dec. 16, 2008, the Board of County Supervisors unanimously endorsed the Home Help Program.

On Feb.10, 2009, Prince William County held a Home Help lottery to determine the participants for the Home Help Program  There were 167 slots available for the Home Help Program this year. The County received 323 applications for the program.  Since the program was oversubscribed, a lottery by random drawing was conducted to determine program participants.

In addition, during summer 2009, Prince William County determined that there were enough funds left over from the initial program to allow for a supplemental program for additional applications. The 2009 program is currently at capacity.

Home Help will begin accepting applications for the 2010 program in the spring of 2010.  More info will be forthcoming as we near that timeframe.
